Nikos Christodoulakis studied Electrical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens and continued his postgraduate and doctoral studies at the University of Cambridge. He worked in technical companies and taught at many institutions, such as the University of Cambridge, the European University of Florence, the London Business School, Charles University in Prague, and the University of Cyprus. He was a partner at the Center for Economic Policy Research in London, at the Tinbergen Institute in Amsterdam, EKEM, etc.
He also served as Secretary General of Research and Technology (1993-1996) and financial advisοr to Prime Minister Costas Simitis (1996). From 1996 to March 2000, he was Deputy Minister of Finance in charge of Budget and Public Debt Management (a critical period for the country's entry into the Eurozone). He then served as Minister of Development from 2000-2001 and Minister of National Economy and Finance from 2001-2004. From 2002-2003 he was President of the Eurogroup and Ecofin.
Since then he has been Professor of Economic Analysis at the Department of International and European Economic Studies of the Athens University of Economics and Business. In 2015 he was appointed Minister of Economy, Transport and Shipping, while in 2018 he was Visiting Professor at LSE.
